CLP Label Information

We offer the option to purchase a CLP compliant product label, containing all mandatory information as required by the EU CLP Regulation. This will be provided as a PDF. This is not a design, but a summery of the required information. This will enable you to integrate the necessary information into your product label design. You can also order the CLP label creation separately. Already have a label? — We can do a CLP label compliance check of your label in accordance with current CLP requirements. We will provide detailed feedback and corrections to ensure your label meets all regulatory standards.

Poison Centre Notification for Tyre Care Products (Excluding Vehicle Shampoos and Cleaning Agents)

Tyre care products, such as dressings, gloss enhancers, and restorers, are formulated to improve a tyre’s appearance and protect it from cracking, fading, or other environmental damage. These products may contain solvents, silicone compounds, or other active chemicals that can be hazardous if misused or if accidental exposure occurs. As a result, any tyre care product classified as hazardous under EU regulations requires a Poison Centre Notification (PCN). By submitting a PCN, manufacturers and distributors ensure that poison centers can quickly access the product’s safety data—enabling rapid, targeted assistance in case of emergencies.

What is a UFI?

A Unique Formula Identifier (UFI) is a 16-character alphanumeric code that links a hazardous product to its precise chemical composition. For tyre care products such as dressings or gloss treatments, the UFI must be displayed on the product label, typically near any hazard symbols or safety warnings. If an incident arises, poison centers use this code to swiftly identify the product and provide accurate medical or first-aid recommendations.

What is a PCN?

A Poison Centre Notification (PCN) is a legally required submission under EU regulations for hazardous chemical mixtures. Submitting a PCN for tyre care products equips poison centers with details regarding the product’s chemical makeup, hazard classification, packaging, and recommended usage or first-aid instructions. This information is crucial for healthcare and emergency professionals to respond effectively when accidental exposure occurs.

What is CLP?

The Classification, Labelling, and Packaging (CLP) regulation standardizes how chemicals are classified and labeled throughout EU member states. If tyre care products meet certain hazardous criteria, they must display hazard symbols, risk phrases, and the UFI on their labels. CLP compliance ensures users are aware of potential hazards and can handle the products responsibly.

What is the Poison Centre?

The Poison Centre is a network of national poison centers tasked with offering prompt advice and guidance during chemical exposure incidents. When hazardous tyre care products are registered with a PCN, these centers can retrieve all pertinent safety data immediately, delivering accurate support in emergencies.

Why is This Needed?

Tyre care products frequently include chemicals like solvents or silicone-based compounds that may pose health risks if accidentally ingested, inhaled, or contacted with skin or eyes. A PCN guarantees that poison centers have direct access to vital product information, lowering risks by ensuring swift, precise guidance in emergency situations.

Since When is This by Law Obligatory?

Since January 1, 2021, any hazardous chemical mixture, including certain tyre care products, must undergo a PCN in accordance with EU CLP regulations. This measure upholds consistent safety and emergency response standards across EU member states.

FAQ

Question: Do all tyre care products require a PCN?

Answer: Only those tyre care products classified as hazardous under the CLP regulation need a PCN. Non-hazardous products are exempt.

Question: Where is the UFI placed on the product label?

Answer: The UFI is usually positioned near hazard symbols or safety instructions, allowing poison centers and emergency responders to locate it swiftly.

Question: What information is included in a PCN for tyre care products?

Answer: A PCN submission generally covers the product’s chemical composition, hazard classification, usage recommendations, packaging details, and first-aid guidelines.

Question: Are tyre shampoos or cleaning agents included in this category?

Answer: No. Vehicle shampoos and standard cleaning agents are excluded here. This category focuses on products like dressings, glosses, and restorers specifically for tyres.

Question: Who must submit the PCN for a hazardous tyre care product?

Answer: The manufacturer, importer, or distributor responsible for placing the hazardous product on the EU market is obligated to file the PCN.

Question: What are the consequences of not submitting a PCN when required?

Answer: Non-compliance can lead to legal penalties, including fines, recalls, or restrictions on selling the product within EU member states until the PCN requirements are fulfilled.

Question: When did the PCN requirement become mandatory?

Answer: The requirement for registering hazardous chemical products, including tyre care products, took effect on January 1, 2021, under the EU CLP regulation.

Question: How long does it take to submit the UFI and PCN notification?

It takes us a few days’ work. As soon as you upload the documentation, we will get started right away.

Question: Am I the owner of the PCN notification?

Yes, you are the owner of the PCN notification. You retain full ownership of the data you provided. The PCN notification will be accessible in your ECHA account.

Question: Is this service for one product or more?

The service is for one product.

Question: Why do I have to pay to create a UFI?

The service we offer is not just about providing a UFI. The UFI is a component within a much more extensive process. The core service we provide is the preparation and submission of your Poison Centre Notification (PCN) to national appointed bodies through ECHA portal, which is a mandatory requirement under the EU CLP Regulation for placing hazardous mixtures on the market. Generating a UFI is simplest part.  The PCN report, however, is complex. It demands detailed ingredient review—chemical classifications—formatted precisely for Poison Centre submission via ECHA.

Question: My company is not based in the EU, how can I submit a PCN?

We provide a solution for companies which are not based in the EU. You can find more information on the PCN & UFI for non-EU companies page.

Question: Can you provide Safety Data Sheets in full compliance with EU Regulation (REACH & CLP)?

Yes, we can create Safety Data Sheets (SDS)— also known as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)— tailored to your product and compliant with the latest EU regulations. Whether you are manufacturing chemical mixtures, importing products into the EU, or distributing under a private label, a compliant SDS is legally required and essential for safe use throughout the supply chain. You will find more on the Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS) Creation Service page.
