CLP Label Information
We offer the option to purchase a CLP compliant product label, containing all mandatory information as required by the EU CLP Regulation. This will be provided as a PDF. This is not a design, but a summery of the required information. This will enable you to integrate the necessary information into your product label design. You can also order the CLP label creation separately. Already have a label? — We can do a CLP label compliance check of your label in accordance with current CLP requirements. We will provide detailed feedback and corrections to ensure your label meets all regulatory standards.
Registering Artists’, Craft, and Hobby Paints with the Poison Centre
Artists’, craft, and hobby paints are used for artistic and creative expression, as well as for coloring and decorating various items. These paints may contain chemicals that can be hazardous to health, and therefore, it is required by law to submit a Poison Centre Notification (PCN) to the Poison Centre. This notification provides important safety information about the product’s composition, potential hazards, and emergency procedures in case of accidental exposure. The obligation to notify the Poison Centre helps ensure that products are handled and used safely.
What is a UFI?
A UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) is a unique code that is assigned to each chemical product formulation. For artists’, craft, and hobby paints, the UFI helps emergency responders and medical professionals identify the exact chemical composition of the product. This is particularly important in the case of accidents or exposure, as it allows for a quicker and more precise response to mitigate any potential harm.
What is a PCN?
A Poison Centre Notification (PCN) is a mandatory submission that contains key information about the chemical product, such as its hazards, composition, and any necessary first-aid instructions. For artists’, craft, and hobby paints, the PCN ensures that emergency responders have access to critical data in the event of an emergency involving the product. This improves the safety and preparedness of individuals who may be handling these materials.
What is CLP?
CLP (Classification, Labelling, and Packaging) is a European regulation that dictates how hazardous substances should be classified, labeled, and packaged. It is designed to ensure that chemical products are properly identified and that users are informed about the potential risks. For artists’, craft, and hobby paints, CLP ensures that these products are clearly labeled with hazard symbols, safety instructions, and precautionary measures to help users manage any associated risks.
What is the Poison Centre?
The Poison Centre is a central authority that collects and maintains safety information about hazardous products, including artists’, craft, and hobby paints. This information is made available to emergency responders and healthcare professionals to ensure that appropriate and timely actions can be taken in case of exposure to hazardous substances. The Poison Centre also helps the EU track product safety across member states and provides critical support for public health and safety.
Why is This Needed?
Registering artists’, craft, and hobby paints with the Poison Centre ensures that emergency responders and medical professionals have immediate access to the safety data needed in case of an emergency. Since many of these paints contain chemicals that can be hazardous, it is essential to have this information available to mitigate risks and protect public health. The PCN also supports compliance with EU regulations for chemical safety.
Since When is This by Law Obligatory?
The requirement for submitting a Poison Centre Notification (PCN) for hazardous products, including artists’, craft, and hobby paints, became mandatory on January 1, 2021. This is part of a broader effort by the European Union to improve chemical safety, ensuring that all hazardous products are appropriately registered and that the public is adequately informed about the risks of using them.
FAQ
Question: Do artists’, craft, and hobby paints need to be registered with the Poison Centre?
Answer: Yes, if the paint contains hazardous chemicals, it must be registered with the Poison Centre. This ensures that emergency responders have access to vital safety information in the event of exposure or an accident involving the product.
Question: What is the purpose of the UFI for artists’, craft, and hobby paints?
Answer: The UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) is a code that identifies the exact chemical formulation of the paint. This allows emergency responders to quickly understand the product’s composition, which is essential for providing appropriate medical care in case of exposure.
Question: Why is a PCN necessary for artists’, craft, and hobby paints?
Answer: A PCN provides important safety data, such as the chemical composition, hazard information, and first-aid instructions, which is critical for ensuring safety in the event of an emergency. This helps medical professionals and emergency responders handle incidents involving the product more effectively.
Question: How does CLP apply to artists’, craft, and hobby paints?
Answer: CLP ensures that artists’, craft, and hobby paints are properly classified according to their potential hazards and are labeled with clear warning symbols, safety instructions, and precautionary statements. This allows users to handle the paints safely and be aware of any risks they may pose.
Question: When did it become mandatory to submit a PCN for artists’, craft, and hobby paints?
Answer: The requirement to submit a Poison Centre Notification (PCN) for hazardous products, including artists’, craft, and hobby paints, became mandatory on January 1, 2021, as part of the EU’s efforts to improve chemical safety and protect public health.
Question: How long does it take to submit the UFI and PCN notification?
It takes us a few days’ work. As soon as you upload the documentation, we will get started right away.
Question: Am I the owner of the PCN notification?
Yes, you are the owner of the PCN notification. You retain full ownership of the data you provided. The PCN notification will be accessible in your ECHA account.
Question: Is this service for one product or more?
The service is for one product.
Question: Why do I have to pay to create a UFI?
The service we offer is not just about providing a UFI. The UFI is a component within a much more extensive process. The core service we provide is the preparation and submission of your Poison Centre Notification (PCN) to national appointed bodies through ECHA portal, which is a mandatory requirement under the EU CLP Regulation for placing hazardous mixtures on the market. Generating a UFI is simplest part. The PCN report, however, is complex. It demands detailed ingredient review—chemical classifications—formatted precisely for Poison Centre submission via ECHA.
Question: My company is not based in the EU, how can I submit a PCN?
We provide a solution for companies which are not based in the EU. You can find more information on the PCN & UFI for non-EU companies page.
Question: Can you provide Safety Data Sheets in full compliance with EU Regulation (REACH & CLP)?
Yes, we can create Safety Data Sheets (SDS)— also known as Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)— tailored to your product and compliant with the latest EU regulations. Whether you are manufacturing chemical mixtures, importing products into the EU, or distributing under a private label, a compliant SDS is legally required and essential for safe use throughout the supply chain. You will find more on the Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS) Creation Service page.
